Karen Byrne

Karen is a London based artist. Her practice moves between media encompassing mixed-media sculpture, drawing, performance, video and installation.

Her work is often disconcerting, dichotomous even. She considers what is – natural/unnatural; high/low art; what is valued and worshipped/what is considered worthless and despised; human animal/non-human animal; disquieting/joyful; serious/humorous. She is interested in our understanding of our own bodily freedoms, our relationship to the planet and our impact upon it. Sometimes the work is about being a dog.

Karen has exhibited across the UK and most recently in Los Angeles.
